The series "Boundary: Gangneung" expands the creative perspective of the "Unknown Field" series to Gangwon-do, South Korea, exploring environmental sites that are also facing drastic change and transformation.
The core focus of this series lies in the profound changes that environments undergo due to intense social impact, capturing the subtle gestures of how life "persists" amidst these shifts. It fundamentally investigates the interplay between site memory and life's resilience.
The visuals within the work capture the continuous dialogue between nature and civilization. This includes the overlap between plants clinging to man-made structures and undeveloped environments, and human intervention, construction, and alteration of nature's growth patterns. Through these visual experimentations, the work attempts to simulate the boundary between nature and civilization. However, this line is not presented as clear or fixed, but rather as one that is continuously engaged in mutual dependency, erosion, and reshaping.
